So, at this year’s AAJA Gala Awards Banquet, I asked you to join me in doubling down on the Asian American Journalists Association.
Timehop (thanks, Sree!) reminded me that last year, during AAJA’s 30th anniversary, I was in Detroit for our 22nd annual convention, which is also when I celebrated my birthday with my AAJA family. In 2011, I pledged 30 cents per Facebook birthday greeting in honor of the 30 years of AAJA. I donated a grand total of $50.
This year, I’m walking the talk about doubling down by donating 62 cents (1 cent for each year of AAJA, times two) per Aug. 12 birthday greeting. As of 10:05 a.m. Eastern today — 281 greetings were posted on my wall. A few were triplicates, but I also got a few shout-outs through Twitter and private messages. So, let’s call it an even 300 birthday wishes.
300 x 0.62 = $186.
So, AAJA, prepare for a $186 donation from me, in honor of all my birthday well-wishers and to help secure the next 31 years of AAJA.
